Scarf Design

For Advanced Higher Art and Design, I was tasked with the design of a textile. The client's request was as follows: "The National Galleries for Scotland are seeking up and coming textile designers to create a patterned scarf to be sold in their gallery shops. They are seeking designs that will appeal more to females aged 40 years plus who have an elegant and edgy style. The design must take a modern twist on an Art Deco theme to link with the Art Deco exhibition held later in the year. The scarf must have an obvious repeat pattern."

The design was a success and won the Design prize for creativity and eye for detail.

Initial Pattern

The initial pattern was created using cut out helix shapes layered on top of each other using paper and cardboard. The background is a navy blue, with the helix shapes being a combination of gold and silver with some black highlights.

Development of repeated design

The initial pattern was scanned and the image was then developed in Adobe Photoshop.
